Each Christian college will have its own system in place to support and encourage students on their Spiritual journeys. Being that a primary goal of any Christian college should be to support Christians in their spiritual development, there will be some groups on campus or activities offered by the school towards that goal.
A common avenue for spiritual development that is offered by Christian colleges would be campus ministries. Campus ministries are usually a department on campus that is led by a campus minister or pastor, often employing students, that puts on events such as chapels, bible studies, and worship nights. Campus ministries’ sole purpose is to provide ways for students to grow closer to God as individuals and through their school community.
Campus ministries will also usually provide opportunities for service, ministry, and possibly even mission trips for students who opt to get involved. To get involved, students should go to the campus ministries department, talk to someone working there, or send an email/inquire on their school website.
Aside from campus ministries, Christian colleges often have clubs that students can join, probably led by other students, or bible studies that happen on or around campus. These can provide a different way to meet other students who are pursuing Christ and connect you with churches in the area. Sometimes the clubs will have other focuses too, like an intramural team or foreign language club, but it can still be a great way to bond with other Christian students and build up friendships.
Mentorships are also common amongst Christian colleges. Mentors can be professors, counselors, volunteers, or really anyone who speaks Biblical truth into a student’s life and provides an example of Christ. Biblical mentors can be people students find on their own, through classes or academic departments, or through campus ministries or the college itself. If the college isn’t an ideal place for a student to find a mentor, for whatever reason, many churches can also provide students with mentorships and devotional/Bible study opportunities.
These are some of the more common systems in place for spiritual development at Christian colleges/universities. Again, each school will have their own ways of encouraging students in their walk with Christ. Students can look on the individual college’s website, usually under student life, to find out what sort of options there are for spiritual development or what kind of support systems are in place. Otherwise, students can check with the admissions department.
