How are students expected to uphold the school's values?

Christian colleges expect that their students behave in a way that is honoring to God and their community. Exactly what this means can look a little different between schools. There are a couple ways that students can know how they are expected to uphold their school's values.

One clear way to uphold a Christian college's values is to know what the Bible says. Above the authority of any school or person is the word of God. First and foremost, students should aim to honor God with their conduct, interactions, and behavior. If what we say and do lines up with what God has instructed us to say and do, then we are upholding Christian values.

Another way to know what is expected of students is to read the student handbook. Each school has a handbook that details rules for the dorms, student behavior, maybe dress code, and academic behavior (i.e. not cheating or plagiarizing). Do not assume that all the rules will be common sense; take the time to read over the handbook to make sure that you understand what the school expects as far as conduct, relationships, and so on.

If a student is confused about what is expected even after referring to both the Bible and the student handbook, they should always ask. Reach out to academic advisors, mentors, professors, or campus ministries. The faculty and staff at a university are there to help students succeed and achieve their goals, there is no shame or embarrassment in going to them for clarification or help.
